1.Proportion mathematics only
The site knows numbers, not the substances behind them.
SnapRatios performs proportional arithmetic. It has no knowledge of the substances, products or contexts behind the numbers you enter, and it cannot tell you whether a result is appropriate.
2.Not professional guidance
No medical, chemical, engineering, nutritional or financial advice.
Nothing here is medical, veterinary, pharmaceutical, chemical-safety, engineering, nutritional or financial advice. Do not use this site to calculate medication doses or to handle hazardous materials.
3.Conventions differ
Where a notation has two meanings, both are shown and you choose.
Dilution and mixing notation varies between industries and manufacturers. Where a notation has more than one common meaning, we show both and ask you to choose. Always follow the instructions supplied with your product.
4.Context-specific limits
Exact arithmetic is not the same as a valid application.
4.1Food, recipes and mixtures
Scaling a recipe or a mixture changes more than quantity: cooking times, leavening, seasoning balance, solubility and reaction behaviour do not scale proportionally. Treat a scaled result as a starting point, not a tested formulation.
4.2Education and examinations
The guides explain standard ratio mathematics, but marking schemes, required notation and permitted methods differ between courses and examination boards. Follow the conventions your course requires.
4.3Images and aspect ratios
Aspect-ratio arithmetic gives proportional dimensions only. It does not account for cropping, safe areas, pixel density, rounding to whole pixels or the requirements of a specific platform.
4.4Business, accounting and tax
Proportional splits of money are arithmetic. They are not accounting entries, partnership allocations, tax treatments or legal determinations of who is owed what.
5.Verify before acting
Check anything consequential against an authoritative source.
Check any result that affects safety, health, cost or compliance against an authoritative source before you rely on it.
