Something looks wrong?
Most unexpected results come from one of these. Check them before reporting a bug.
Values in the correct order
A ratio has a direction — 2:3 and 3:2 are different. Check that Part A and Part B match the order in your instructions.
Part-to-part vs part-to-whole
“1:10” usually means one part product to ten parts water (11 parts total), while “1 in 10” means one part of the whole. The dilution calculator lets you choose.
Whether the ratio is already simplified
An unsimplified ratio like 12:18 gives the same answer as 2:3, but the intermediate numbers differ. Simplify first if you want clean parts.
Consistent units
Where units matter, convert before you enter values — mixing grams with millilitres or ounces with litres silently changes the relationship.
Decimal and fraction inputs
Decimals and fractions are interpreted exactly as written: 0.5 is read as 1/2 and 2.5:1 simplifies to 5:2.
That scaling preserved the relationship
Every part must be multiplied by the same factor. If only one side was scaled, the ratio has changed — the equivalent ratio calculator will show the correct pair.
